Destination 25 Revisted: Prague, Czech Republic

Date of Visit: 22-24 December 2011

Yes, I am back!!! :) After the unfruitful last visit, I decided that I should go back to the city again to see it in it's full glory. Since it's not that far and expensive to go, I decided to squeeze in the trip before Christmas! And I am really happy I decided to come back.

Firstly, for anyone who decided to travel by bus in central and eastern Europe, you can consider travelling by the Student Agency bus company. They are really cheap and the bus service is superb! Free on board entertainment and free beverage throughout the journey. Really good!

We arrived late on the first night, so we decided to go to a cabaret show. It cost us about 8Euros to enter. Cameras were not allowed as clothing are exactly popular with the performers inside there. Being poor and cheapskate, we ordered only a beer and sat there for about 2 hours. There wasn't much special performances and the "performers" that night seems to outnumber the customers. But still, it's my first time going into a strip club... nono I mean cabaret show! Interestingly, there is a "menu" for people to choose the type of performance they want. And we did saw someone, apparently very rich, with plenty of performance at his table.

On the 2nd day, we visited the city like any tourist would do. And that day happened to be the funeral day for the late first president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel. Halfway through the free Sanderman's Tour, the sirens went off and the city went quiet for a minute of silence. It was amazing to just see the whole city stop for that minute.

Nonetheless, we continued the tour and visited most of the interesting sights in the city.

We visited one of the most over-rated sights in the world, according to some research. And it is none other than the Astronomical Clock Tower in Prague! Every hour, there is some "performance" at the clock, and thousands of people would gather and watch the performance. However, do not expect too much as this clock was built hundred of years ago. I like it when our guide said: To the ancient people, this clock is like the newest version of iphone.

At night, Ben and I decided to hit the biggest dance club in Central Europe, the Karlovy Lazne. There is just 5 levels of dancing space with each level specializing in certain types of music. For that night, the music was: Radio Hits, Dance Music, Oldies, R&B and HipHop, and Chill Out.

I think because we visited on a weekday, there wasn't a lot of people in the club. Furthermore, the club is huge, which makes it feel so much emptier. On the night we were there, level 2 and level 5 were completely devoid of people. Sucks to be the DJ there on that night. However, other levels do have some people dancing. And more people came as time past by.

Drinks were not overpriced in the club too, compared to many of the clubs in Vienna. Ben and I wanted to have a great night out but not get drunk and rob ourselves of the awesome memories of the place. So we set a budget of about 10Eur each and we actually managed to end the night very happy and most importantly, not drunk.

Simply put it, the club is simply AWESOME. Can someone borrow me come money for me to build something like this in Singapore. This place literally cannot get crowded at all and it can totally own Zouk and Butterfactory, combined!

I really enjoyed myself this time round in Prague. It's totally worth the money to come back here for the second time.
