Destination 2: Leeds, United Kingdom

Date of Visit: 24 August 2011

So I begin the 8 hours flight from Dubai to Manchester. It was a long flight, but I was very tired after the stint in Dubai. The whiskey on board the plane also helped me to sleep soundly throughout the flight. The whiskey is actually really good, it's very smooth and very easy to drink! I'll try to find this brand next time. Haha.

After taking a short train trip from Manchester to Leeds, we arrived at Jian Hui's place. It was a relief to drop all our luggage and take a nice hot bath.

One of the first thing I noticed was the weather. We went from 40 degrees in Dubai to 14 degrees in Leeds. In fact, I felt that the temperature and climate was awesome. It's not too cold and when the sun comes out, it feels really good! Why can't Singapore have this type of weather all year round???

Feeling hungry after all the travelling, we went out to take a walk around the city of Leeds and to find some food. Being in England, we have to try their favorite food: Fish and Chips! So we pop by this shop that Jian Hui recommended, and it was superb! We had a huge portion of fish with an even larger portion of fries. The fish fillet was the flaky type, and the fries were those big fat chunky type, like those of Mos Burger. Being a fast food restaurant, there were no seats available and we have to hold the food and eat standing up. It's actually quite nice to eat it outdoors in the cool weather, too bad it was drizzling, a weather that is rather common in UK.

We visited Jian Hui's university, University of Leeds, next. It's a very nice campus with all the old buildings you'd expect of an English university.

The upscale shopping center call the Corn Exchange was used to exchange corns in the past... Duh!

Fancy a guess at what this building below is? It's actually a wet market. Lol. It is such a beautiful building. For comparison purposes, the picture on the right is the market opposite my house in Ang Mo Kio. Lol. No fight!

This is the Leeds Victoria Square. Nice old clocktower.

This is Leeds Civic Hall. Can you spot the 4 golden owls in the civic hall photo?

My guide, Jian Hui, doesn't know what's this building is, nor who the statue is, LOL

We rushed to visit the Armory today, only to reach there 10 minutes before closing. Oh well, here are some really cool photos of the ancient armor and weapons:

Well, that's all for Leeds, nothing much here. As Jian Hui puts it, Leeds is F***ing Boring.
