Date of visit: 25 September 2011
The Louvre Museum is a huge museum with countless of artwork and masterpieces inside, mostly from french artistes. As a mountain tortoise, I used to think that the Louvre is just the glass pyramid structure, with all the art under it underground. I know, how stupid right? Lol. So the first time I saw the entire palace that is the Louvre museum, I was pretty stunned by the size of the museum. It is comparable to the Vatican Museum in Rome. If you are an art lover, you will probably need 3-4 days to completely finish the museum. But being me, 3 hours was all it take for me to finish everything.
So when we think of the Louvre Museum, what most famous piece of painting comes to mind? It's non other that the Mona Lisa. As Heex has been reading much about the museum, he planned that we go early in the morning so that we can beat the crowd. And beat them we did. When we reach the painting(we rushed there once we get into the museum), there was already a small crowd there. But it was not difficult to get close to it and get a picture of it. We had been warned of how disappointing it will be, regarding the size of the painting, so I'm actually surprised that it is about the size of an A4 paper. I was expecting it to be A5 size, which will definitely be disappointing.
Just to show you how popular this painting is, this is the amount of people there when I was leaving the museum. It's crazy. Can't even see shit with a crowd like this...
To be honest, that's the only painting in the museum that I wanted to see. But that des not justify the 15EUR I paid to enter the museum. So I followed the recommendations on the information brochure to see the other famous masterpieces. So here they are for your viewing pleasure:
Along the way, I realised that the museum uses special notices. So I started to hunt for them. Here are some of it:
Well, I hoped that I've managed to share something new to you and upgraded your art appreciation level by 10 levels. Lol. Personally, after visiting all these awesome museums such as the Uffizi in Florence, Vatican Museum in Vatican, and Louvre in Paris, I don't think I've learn to appreciate art. It's just not something built into me. Perhaps it is because most the the paintings are depicting religion and the bible, which I've no idea what's going on. I've come to realise that I like nature drawing better. Some of them, I feel, are even better than modern photographs.
All in all, the Louvre is a very good museum for art lovers. But be warned: Come early or be squashed!
