Date of Visit: 28 - 29 September 2011
One word: EXPENSIVE!!!
...
Maybe another word: GORGEOUS!
We are in one of the most expensive city in the world, and we are not kidding. Lets compare prices first:
1) Big Mac meal in Paris: 5.99EUR --- Big Mac meal in Zurich: 11.99Fr (about 9EUR).
2) Falafel meal in Amsterdam: 4.00EUR --- Falafel meal in Zrich: 10.00Fr (about 8EUR)
2) 6men hostel in Luxembourg: 20EUR/night --- 6men hostel in Luxembourg: 39Fr (about 31EUR)
I think you get the point. Luckily we are not staying too long in Zurich or we'll be broke in no time. But besides the point that it is an expensive city, Zurich is actually a very nice and pleasant place to visit. The Zurich Lake is my favorite especially. The water is very clear and the view is simply stunning. There are public swimming places around the lake, which just allow people to deposit their belongings and pop into the lake for a swim. In fact, we see many people just strip and jump into the lake everywhere. I'd love to have done that, but I did not have a tower with me.
We did not have much time in Zurich, so we just went for a quick walk around the city. And there are the usual churches and bell towers. Nothing spectacular.
So with that, we end our month long trip around mainland Europe. We took a 8 hour train ride from Zurich to Vienna. Well, the trip is simply beautiful. What a way to end the journey. Travelling in the train along the Swiss Alps, other mountain gorges, acrossing rivers and grass plains. Awesome! (the views deserve a bigger picture, I'm not going to shrink them)
If I'm damn rich and want to retire and chillax, this would definitely be the place I want to be at :)
